Hosting a playdough Galentine’s Day party is a fun, creative way to celebrate friendship and love with kids or adults who enjoy hands-on activities. Here’s a step-by-step guide to planning a memorable and engaging playdough-themed event:
Setting the Scene
Transform your space into a crafting paradise with comfortable seating arranged around a large table or several smaller stations. Try to setup on a table that has a somewhat slick non-porous surface that will make rolling out playdough (and clean-up) a breeze. If you don’t have a table like that, you can use plastic colorful tablecloths or give each child a tray to protect surfaces and create an inviting atmosphere. Pro tip: Add some soft lighting with fairy lights or candles to create that perfect cozy vibe your littles will love.
Essential Materials
Fresh, high-quality playdough. I'd recommend one midi jar (5.5 oz) per person
Rolling pins and sculpting tools
Valentine’s day themed charms
People or animals to use in scene making
Googly eyes for love monster
Small plates or craft mats for individual workstations
Optional add-ins like glitter, beads, or natural elements for texture
Snacks for the kids and adults
The Perfect Party Flow
I like to let kids rip any way they like at first. The only rule I have is to give every guest the exact same setup. You may think it’s fun to give one kid dinos and one kid unicorns but inevitably a fight will break out.
I even give everyone just one color playdough. I have a playdough company with at least 10 custom colors and I only offer ONE color at a playdough party. Call me mean mommy but the kids don’t even consider another option if it’s not there.
After the play starts to slow you can start with some guided activities:
- Can you make a valentine scene for your friend? Write their name at the top and sign your name. I’ll take a picture and send to their mommy so they can keep your creation forever!
- Can you setup a candy shop with goodies made out of playdough?
- Can you make circles and decorate them like cookies?
- Heart Sculpting Contest: See who can sculpt the most intricate or creative heart design.
- Can you make a love monster?
Approximate Timeline
Free Play: 30-60 minutes
Guided Activities: 30 minutes
Making Memories
Set up a photo station with good lighting where friends can showcase their creations. Create a party hashtag like #BizzysGalentines for sharing on social media. Consider having small display boxes available so guests can take their masterpieces home safely.
Party Favors
Send your friends home with a special reminder of your creative celebration. Small containers of Bizzys playdough make perfect party favors. Or you can just get some containers and let kids take home what they played with.
Why Playdough for Galentine's?
There's something magical about bringing together friends to create with their hands. The tactile nature of playdough helps reduce stress and promotes mindfulness, while the creative process sparks meaningful conversations. It's the perfect activity for strengthening bonds and making memories.
Remember, the key to a successful Galentine's playdough party is keeping it relaxed and fun. Don't worry about perfection – it's about enjoying each other's company and expressing creativity together. Don’t forget wine for the moms!
